Welcome to Northwoods where we have provided safe home-like settings for
young people since 1993.
We have a variety of settings all of which are designed to be safe, structured
and healthy. These unique sites allow us to individualize our approach and
address the teen’s learning styles, social capabilities, career objectives,
athletic interests and more. All residents contribute to household chores
including cooking, cleaning, washing their own laundry and more.
An applicant’s minimum length of stay at Northwoods is one year. Parents
discuss with us the goals they have for their son and work with us to attain
them in an agreed upon time frame. We encourage and support frequent
healthy visits from families to any of our sites.
The Northwoods Sagle Farm is about a 90-minute drive from Spokane, WA. and is
the starting point for new Northwoods students. Our students begin their
academics with an individualized plan and personal attention in our Sagle farm
classroom. This ten-acre site is located six miles south of Sandpoint, ID.
The Schweitzer Ski Mountain, Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint West Athletic Club and
the City of Sandpoint offer abundant recreational and educational opportunities
for our students.
Our second site is in La Tigra, Costa Rica in the Northern Central Zone.
This site is on 95 tropical acres and is used for our travel study program.
Northwoods students spend four months of their stay with Northwoods in this
beautiful country. While continuing their studies they will live in our
new lodge and/or with local Costa Rican families for a complete cultural
emersion.
Our Northwoods Bonners Ferry, ID site is 40 miles north of the Sagle Farm.
Bonners Ferry is a beautiful and peaceful community. The students living
here are in the transition phase of our program. They will be enrolled
into the local school and have the opportunity to apply the life skills they
have learned in a mainstream setting. The local high school has a
harmonious atmosphere and almost everyone knows each other.
Northwoods boys turning 18 have the opportunity to move into one of our two
young adult independent living homes. There they have age appropriate
peers and responsibilities. These homes are located on both of our main
Idaho properties adjacent to the licensed facilities.
In addition to our three main living environments, we also offer Quality Host
Family services that provide enhanced and even more distinctive experiences for
our Northwoods students.
Northwoods is committed to bringing value and an individualized program to each
of our students and their families. All of our settings are comfortable,
wholesome and unique. Our schedule permits the resident and our staff to
alternate among our sites to develop consistency and healthy relationships
throughout. We welcome you to call us or visit any or all of our sites.
